El Acebuchal, Parque Natural Sierras Tejeda y Almijara, Frigiliana

El Acebuchal is a very small mountain village, 7 kilometres distance (15 minutes) along track from Frigiliana, and is an outlying settlement originating from the 18th Century, strongly connected with all of Frigiliana and its families, yet abandoned in 1949, since when it has been always referred to as the lost village.

Acebuchal is a small group of cottages and village houses nestling in the folds of a very beautiful valley inside the Natural Park of the Tejeda and Almijara mountains. It is a special natural paradise of great beauty and peace surrounded by pine trees, aromatic thyme and rosemary and all the unique flora and fauna of a remote environment which has been preserved from development to this day.

In 1998 Antonio el Zumbo and his family started the restoration of this really lovely place and the dwellings have been carefully and lovingly restored in a traditional rustic style to provide visitors with every modern convenience and comfort. Electricity has been brought to the valley, and the water supply brought up-to-date. The whitewashed houses are set in winding pebbled streets amongst beautiful gardens and planted with lovely plants and shrubs wherever possible. Modern day life now also brings the demand for more amenities and some pools have been carefully positioned for the further enjoyment of visitors. However, the village has no other infrastructure of shops, bars or suchlike, so visitors must be content with being self-sufficient. The zone is perfect for walkers and nature lovers, readers, writers, painters and those who like to sit outdoors during the daytime all year round and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings.

This environment is idyllic, peaceful and perfect for all those wishing to escape the crowded coast and a more sophisticated lifestyle, yet you will find you are only 15 minutes scenic drive distant from the buzz, restaurants, bars and shops of Frigiliana, and all the pretty houses lack nothing for comfort and convenience, throughout all seasons of the year.
